Stand its main hall on one end, and it would be the fifth tallest building in the UK. That’s the sheer scale of the Manchester Engineering Campus Development (MECD) – one of the single largest construction projects ever undertaken by a British university.
Behind the project is Mecanoo, the Dutch powerhouse responsible for HOME and the British Library. Its Associate Director, Patrick Arends, joined us for our lecture series on 29 March, to take us behind the scenes of this pioneering new building for the University of Manchester – which will bring together its four engineering schools and two research institutes from the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and act as a gateway for the public.
Here’s a short film we made on the night:
Thanks to the International Anthony Burgess Foundation as always for their impeccable hospitality. And thanks to those of our members who were able to come. Keep an eye on the events calendar for future instalments of our lecture series.
